Despite my lack of posts, I have been producing. One item is a second Walnut Mantel for my Aunt’s basement fireplaces.
The lumber was only milled so I over cut the pieces and sent them through the planer.

I cut the 45s and used 4 90 deg clamps for the corners. Some people say that they 90 degree clamps don’t work and that I should throw them away, but I think I proved that they work pretty well with this project.
Here is the top of the mantel being clamped. I have a bag of ratchet clamps that I use for projects like this. They really come in handy.

Here is a god look at it all put together. I set the top shelf down a half inch so that there is a lip around the top. The first mantel was flush. This way they can put thousands of marbles on it.

I put on one coat of 50/50 shellac and denatured alcohol, 2 coats of dewaxed shellac, and 3 coats of semi-gloss polyurethane.

Looks pretty sharp I think. I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to deliver it and mount due to COVID, but I hope soon.
