Arrow Table – Eastern Redcedar
The KU Field Station cleared a wooded area near Baldwin City to create the Rice Woodland Trail. Local artists were invited to take the milled wood and participate in a juried art competition: Ode to Eastern Redcedar. Long story short, I entered this piece and won an award for the Most Original Design. It was a fun show with many incredible pieces.
My arrow table spins. The drawer only opens when pointing a certain direction. My goal was to demonstrate the versatility of eastern redcedar by using different woodworking techniques.
Kitchen Cart – Canary Wood
My brother requested a kitchen cart made of canary wood with caster wheels. The wood has an interesting grain pattern and looks golden in person. The cart has shelves for the microwave and pantry goods.
Walnut Bench
A walnut bench with blue epoxy to fill one corner. The legs push down and out, and the pressure keeps the bench together. No nails needed. Padauk bow ties prevent the wood from splitting.
Walnut Bench with Shelf
A live-edge bench with convenient shelf. All made from walnut and steel legs. These days, you can search online and purchase metal legs for benches, tables, desks, chairs, etc., which makes for a simple project.
Adjustable Side Table
I made this adjustable side table for my father-in-law. The base is made from curly pine and has lockable wheels. I designed the surface pattern from various veneer wood, then covered with epoxy for a beautiful shine.
Wall Art
Large wall art, sized at 3-feet by 2.5-feet. Each square is cut at an angle from 2″ x 2″ pine, then stained black. The piece acts like a sound absorber. There’s a hint of rainbow light from our window.
Halloween Cutouts
Spooky cutouts for Halloween photos. Made in collaboration with the Lumberyard Arts Center in Baldwin City, KS. A simple project using particle board and I added a base. It’s easy to disassemble and store until the next year or replace with different cutouts.
Fireplace Mantel
A fireplace mantel and seat. Made from local walnut and finished with shellac and polyurethane for a smooth shine. The mantel has an interesting gradient, going from a dark to lighter shade. The left is the finished project, and the right is the 3D model I designed when planning with the homeowner. The model gives me exact measurements for purchasing and cutting the wood.
Cutting Board – Countertop
A custom cutting board made for a kitchen counter. Designed with a nose to cover the counter’s edge. The owners are Disney fans, and the bottom has a hidden Mickey, filled with epoxy and turquoise stones.
Restored Table and Chairs
A friend gave us their coffee table and chairs. They were in used condition and benefited from sanding and a refinish. I used Rubio Monocoat for the first time on these pieces. Turned out great.
Bridge
Bridge for a creek, so the riding lawnmower can drive across. Made of all cedar and stained to protect against the weather. Five years later, and it’s still in great condition.
Greenhouse
A greenhouse with a geodesic dome design. The connection joints came from a kit purchased online, then I bought and prepared the wood. It came together fast, but it helps to have 1-2 people hold up the dome as you assemble. For the first year, we covered the greenhouse in plastic and added a proper door. In later years, we replaced the plastic with panels made of corrugated plastic.
Wedding Arch
This one was a special project. A hexagonal wedding arch for our wedding. Made of cherry wood and walnut. The whole arch unscrews and breaks down for easy carrying and storage. The walnut brackets hide where the cherry wood overlaps and screws together. Both sturdy and beautiful.
House – Mailbox Door
A fun art piece. We found this mailbox door, so I created a small house. The shingled roof opens on a hinge, and the door opens with the correct mailbox lock combination. This piece uses multiple wood types and veneer for the shingles.
Penguin Cutting Board
My wife’s coworker asked for this fun design. Made from all oak and using end-cut blocks for a sturdy base, then shaped to a penguin silhouette.
Walnut Cane
This is an antique handle that I helped clean up. I turned walnut on the lathe to create a strong base, then cut the length to a custom size. All worked out well!
Walnut Tables
My cousin requested tables to put houseplants on. This project was a simple design. I made a walnut top with borders and put them on steel legs. The walnut grain has a bright pattern and shine.
Bathroom Cubbies
A practical solution for our combination bathroom and laundry room. I added rods for drying towels and cubbies for the laundry supplies. All made from wood and painted a vivid orange-red.
Hallway Table
My wife saw a variation of this table online and wanted one. So, I whipped this up in a couple days. It’s a clean and simple design. I don’t usually paint wood, but the color matches our bedroom set of furniture.
Cherry Sewing Table
Completely restored this sewing table for my mother-in-law’s friend. I cleaned and repainted the base, made custom wooden wheels to replace the originals, and added a top from cherry wood.
Walnut Dining Table and Bench
We’ve been planning this for years. We wanted a big dining table to seat many people in our new home. All the walnut is local to Kansas. A beautiful and hardy table and bench!
Oak Butcher Block
I made this for a friend out of 100% solid oak. It matches the butcher block their parents owned. You can really knock around some meat on this thing.
Side-grain Plywood Table
… took a lot of glue, but made an attractive surface. Reclaimed the table legs.
Oak Louie Cube Box
… with felt liner. Perfect for delicate things. I gave this one to my Mother.
Arrow Table
… with purple heart trim, hair pin legs, and lots of different wood veneer. Lot of fun. There is also an epoxy surface on top.

… with 5 types of veneer for a very interesting piece. Cutting all the veneer takes a long time, but it’s worth it.

…with cherry, walnut, purple heart, and oak.
Aspen Over-couch Table
…with a purple heart and plywood end cut surface sealed with epoxy, reclaimed casters and…
adjustable height with thumb screw. Pretty cool.
Oak 2-Board Bar Stools
…with forest green nylon straps. The design for these only needs two 6′ boards. They are simple, but effective and make for surprisingly comfortable bar stools.
Padauk Coffee Table
…with drawer inlays to melt your heart…
…your purple heart! Plus cherry, maple, oak, and plywood. The self closing drawers are a nice touch.
Ceder Bench
…for front porch sittin’. No screws, just 4 dowels and a bunch of glue.

…with a lid. Nice for change or guitar picks.
