New Cutting Boards

I haven’t posted since Halloween because I got spooked from the abrupt FAME of Evening Grain. I’m getting a lot of bot traffic, so that’s something.

During November I have completed a number of projects and a batch of cutting boards with new designs and new exciting woods. Kristy and I were getting them prepped to go into the gallery (that I am now a member of), the Second Avenue Art Guild in Dodge City, KS. Get your side arm out to shoot up some holiday deals! Here is a layout of some of them.

New pattern, the Wiggle, that people seem to really like. These have purp, walnut, cherry, blood wood, padauk, and hedge. The hedge end-cut isn’t as yellow or attractive as I hoped, but it’s an alright contrast.

The rainbow boards are an idea I’ve had for a while, where you order the different woods to look like a rainbow. There’s not a lot of available green and blue wood out there, so that’s whatever. These boards feature bubinga, purp, walnut, blood, padauk, cherry, yellow pine, hedge, coffee?, oak, catalpa?, hickory, aspen, and zebra. Exciting stuff. I’ll be doing more of these.

The spiral board is an ambitious board with walnut and cherry. The assembly wasn’t quite right, so I’ll be retooling and will give it another shot in a couple years.

As always, I finished a variety of paddle boards. There is hedge, birds eye maple, cherry, and walnut. I have refined the methods to complete these more efficiently and that make me feel like I’m growing as a carpenter. I am expecting my complementary subscription to Fine Woodworking in the mail anytime now…

With a select number of cutting boards, I teamed up with my brother, Adam, to create top knots so that the boards can be hung. Hanged? And they turned out to be really dynamic pieces. I’d buy a board for those alone. Check out the butcher knife on the hedge!

We like to make the boards look professional on the display table, so we’ve printed up some cards and gave them a rustic look with some twine. There’s plenty of advice on how to condition and keep a cutting board clean online, but we include some instructions on the back of the cards as well. Regardless, I hope these will all be riddled with knife marks in 5 years.

Stay inside. Crank up the HEPA filters to max. Stay warm.

Ian, I love the cutting boards! Especially the ones with the different woods. The Rainbow boards are a beautiful idea. You are extremely talented. I need to get out to Dodge to see them in person. dana Stuart
