Miter Sled (part 3)

I finally got the bench top planer out to process the 2x4s for the miter sled.

It is nice planing down the thickness of pine because it is so fast and it ends up being a pretty flat edge. I am a big fan of pine, by the way.

I took a second to make sure the 2×4 boards were square against the birch plywood and it would settle into the table saw slots nicely.

So far so good. There is a little bit of stickiness when I slide the sled back and forth, so I will need to do some more sanding. Like my other cross cut sled, I will put a coat of paste wax on it, which will really decrease the friction. I’ll show some pictures of that when I get to it.

Next, a quick glue up.

And more clamps.

I’ll let it sit over night to let the glue bond. Like I said, a little more sanding on the rails and then I’ll do the first cut to make the 45. I’m going to make sure that my table saw is calibrated first because it’d be lousy to do all this work and not have a good miter.
