I’ve had a 2″ x ~10″ x ~5′ walnut board hanging around for a couple weeks with the intention of making walnut cutting boards out of it. I spent the morning planing it down and thinned it to around 1 3/4″. I cut off the edges and then cut it halfway to make it more workable. One edge was astoundingly straight, so I trimmed up both sides.

The idea is to make perfect 1.75″ x 1.75″ squares with one square of purple heart for an accent. I think I’ll get two really nice cutting boards out it.
I ripped the boards on the table saw and got 10 posts.

Because I want the one block of purple heart, I halved 3 of the walnut posts and cut up a couple pieces of purple heart. I planed down all sides to make them close to square and clamped them all up. I have 2 pipe clamps and an assortment of smaller clamps. It usually does a good job and has little slip out.

I’ve clamped them all at the same time; there is no glue between the two sizes. You can see the block of purple heart third from the left. I will let the glue dry until tomorrow evening.
